PAY-IT-FORWARD HOUSE is a charitable and benevolent not-for-profit corporation organized to provide rest and respite in a comfortable home-like environment for family members and friends of patients at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore, Illinois.

Patients’ loved ones can drop-in for a break during the day or stay overnight at a minimal cost of $5.00 per night.  To stay overnight, guests must have a referral from Kindred Hospital.

To learn more about our services and referral process, visit the Pay-It-Forward House FAQs.

The Pay-It-Forward House is a 501(c)3 charitable entity, independent from Kindred Hospital.  Kindred has pledged financial support and welcomes the service the House provides.

Summer 2008

Welcome to the Pay-It-Forward House website! Three years ago, the Pay-It-Forward House opened its doors to offer daytime respite and overnight accommodations to the families and friends of patients at Kindred Hospital-Sycamore. What an amazing three years it has been! The House has provided more than 3500 nights of rest to guests from all over the United States-and one from India!
If you are a potential guest, we hope that the information provided here will give you a sense of what the House is like and how we can take some of the pressure off of you and your family during your loved one's illness. But the best way to get a sense of what we have to offer is to come over and see the House for yourself. We are staffed solely by friendly faces from the community, so there is not someone on site to show you the facility around the clock. Volunteers are on duty from 11am to 6 pm, Monday through Thursday and 11am to 2:30pm Friday and Saturday. If you decide to make the Pay-It-Forward House your home-away-from-home whether for one night or several weeks, you and the other guests will have the House to yourselves outside these hours. So, please come for a tour and try one of our homemade cookies while you are there!
None of what we offer at the Pay-It-Forward House would have been possible without the wonderful support received from the local community. More than 100 people are trained as greeters. 50 more bake homemade cookies that guests enjoy daily. Many, many more individuals tend to the gardens to make them a spot for reflection and serenity. In addition, numerous organizations have pitched in: Kiwanis, Rotary, Lions, church groups big and small, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Red Hat groups, bunco groups, along with many corporate sponsors. We wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone for all the gifts of time, money and items to facilitate the operation of this home-away-from-home!
