How You Can Help

We welcome your support, whether it be your time, your talent, a financial contribution, or supplies to keep our guests comfortable.

 

Time

Individual volunteers are needed to staff the house for guest check-ins and daily management. Most people work one or several 3.5 hour shifts per month. Some people share this time with a friend. Our volunteer application is a good way to get started. Fill it out and email it back or drop it by.

Talent

The Pay-It-Forward House is looking for individuals and organizations to help with lawn care, cleaning, beautification and basic home maintenance. The list on the back of our volunteer application will give you an idea of the areas in which many people serve, but we like to say "Tell us your passion-we'll see if we can work it into serving the House." For more information, send us an email and we will forward it to the appropriate area coordinator who will get back in touch with you.

Supplies

Like any home, the Pay-It-Forward House needs paper goods (towels, napkins, plates, toilet paper), cleaning supplies, and snack foods. Donations in kind are greatly appreciated. We periodically update our Perpetual Needs List of items that our guests consume constantly. It's always a huge pleasure to drive up to the House in the morning and find that a kind-hearted soul has left us a case of pop or paper towels. We also love it when people stop by during volunteer hours because then we can say THANK YOU! (A volunteer is on duty Mon.-Thurs. 11 am- 6 pm and Fri. & Sat. 11 am- 2:30 pm.)

Financial Contribution

Your financial support pays for on-going operations that keep the guests comfortable, such as heat, electricity, water, etc. We are a 501(c)3 charitable organization and your contribution is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. We're still small enough that we do not process credit card contributions online. We ask that you simply mail us a check, payable to Pay-It-Forward House NFP, at 719 Somonauk Street, Sycamore, IL 60178 or better still, drop by so we can thank you in person. We will, of course, acknowledge your contribution with a letter for your tax records.
