We are located at 719 Somonauk Street in Sycamore, IL. The House is a beautiful, historic two-story home near Kindred Hospital-Sycamore and close to the downtown shopping area. Guest parking is available. For more information, send us an email or call 815-762-4882.
Our House is staffed by volunteers during the following hours:
Monday – Thursday 11 am – 6 pm
Friday & Saturday 11 am – 2:30 pm
Arranging to Stay – Referrals Required
Guests must be family members or direct caregivers of a patient receiving medical treatment at a medical facility in DeKalb County, Illinois.
You must first contact your medical facility’s social services, nurse, or case manager and tell them you would like to stay with us as a guest of Pay-It-Forward House. They will provide a referral form for you to present to the House staff.
Next, please call (815-762-4882) to arrange your stay. Because space is limited, rooms are assigned on a first come-first served basis and rooms may not be reserved. Guests are allowed to stay as long as their patient is actively receiving medical treatment or at the discretion of the Executive Director.
Suggested Donation for Guests
The suggested donation is $10 per night, per room. However, no one is turned away due to inability to pay. We also request a $20 key deposit that is refunded to you at the end of your stay.
Day Use Program
If you need a bit of relaxation but do not want stay overnight, you are more than welcome to use our House and resources throughout the day when a volunteer is here. Resources you can take advantage of include:
- A place to take a nap
- All food items in our pantries and refrigerator
- Serenity Garden
- Computer Access
Please call us at (815) 762-4882 before coming over to the House to ensure that someone is here. You will still need a referral form filled out from a doctor, social worker, or nurse at the location your patient is receiving treatment.
We know that our guests may be undergoing some of the most difficult days and often they find support from our incredible volunteers and the other guests. You can expect to meet some of these kind and caring volunteers at the House and other guest families staying with us. We are here to help you feel welcome, listen to you, and we respect your privacy as well.
Each room includes the following:
- Sheets, coverlets, blankets and pillows
- Bath towels, wash cloths and hand towels
- Bath robe and toiletries, if needed
While staying with us, guests also have access to the following common amenities:
- Kitchen with microwave, crock pots, toaster oven, coffee and tea makers
- Pantry Staples
- Living and Dining Rooms
- Family Room with Cable television
- Free Wi-Fi
- Computer access
- Washers/Dryers with complimentary laundry supplies
- Our Serenity Garden
- And of course, our infamous cookies homemade by our Cookie Committee volunteers
What We Expect
Our primary concern is that guests have a comfortable place to rest and feel safe while in our House. We have established a set of rules to help aid in that process. We do expect that guests utilize the House for its intended purpose, to be close to a loved one during a medical crisis as well as a place of rest.
It is important that guests staying with us are comfortable in a communal environment. We do not have a full-time cleaning staff so we ask guests to clean up after themselves in common areas and in their room.
Smoking is permitted only outside and in the designated smoking area, away from all entry ways.
There is no curfew for guests to be in the House. Guests can come and go as needed to be with their patient, while taking into consideration the other guests staying in the House.
Visitors of registered guests are allowed when a Pay-It-Forward House staff member or volunteer is on site.
Children under the age of 18 are welcome but must be supervised by an adult at all times.
